The subject of the picture is an unnamed private soldier who served with the Parachute Regiment in Helmand.

It is intended to convey how every member of the armed forces serving in Afghanistan deserves recognition, not just those who hold command positions or who are officially recognised for exceptional gallantry or bravery.

Every servicemen comes back changed by their experience.
