Lord Grade

Oil on canvas, 14 x 10 inches, 2007

Lady Grade had made the winning bid for a portrait to be painted by me at a charity auction early in 2007.

She decided her husband Michael should be the subject. Sittings were scheduled and took place at ITV Network Centre on the Gray’s Inn Road, London for April, May and June. I enjoyed his company enormously and we chatted about people we knew and had in common. After much reminiscing about Eric Morecambe, Larry Grayson and the thesps of yesteryear, the small head and shoulders portrait was finished. Although I have to confess to a blip when progress on the picture was jeopardised; I had overlooked a sitting and missed an appointment, the only time ever. Writing profuse apologies, I received a short but concise reply “No problem, except I missed your company”. What a lovely man!
