Baroness Thatcher

Oil on canvas, 40 x 28 inches, 2009. The Downing Street Portrait

On Monday 23 November 2009, the Prime Minister Gordon Brown unveiled a new portrait of Lady Thatcher in Downing Street. Margaret Thatcher returned to No. 10 to attend the unveiling at a private reception hosted by Gordon Brown. The portrait, commissioned for Downing Street was to commemorate the historic nature and length of Lady Thatcher’s premiership. Whilst I have painted six portraits of Lady T, this commission was a particular honour as it is the first, and to date only, portrait ever commissioned for permanent display in the Prime Ministers’ official residence.
